The President took part in the farewell ceremony for Great Patriotic War veteran Nikolai Gulyaev

Veteran of the Great Patriotic War, militia veteran, retired lieutenant colonel Nikolai Gennadievich Gulyaev passed away on the 8th of November. He was 98 years old. The farewell ceremony with Nikolai Gennadievich took place in the Church of the Holy Blessed Prince Alexander Nevsky, located on the territory of the Bendery fortress.

Representatives of Government authorities, colleagues, friends and residents of Bendery came to pay last respects to the front-line soldier. The President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Vadim Krasnoselsky took part in the farewell ceremony for Nikolai Gennadievich. The President personally knew the veteran. “Today we say goodbye to a soldier of bygone era, the era of victors”, said the President, addressing the family and friends of Nikolai Gennadyevich.

The President noted that Nikolai Gennadievich was a modest person who left vivid memories of himself.

Nikolai Gennadievich Gulyaev was born on October 10, 1925 in the village of Gorodishchevo, Manturovsky district, Kostroma region. He went to the front at the age of seventeen. He was drafted into the 22nd training rifle division, Tyumen in March 1943. The young soldier after training was sent to the 1st Belorussian Front as a machine gunner.

He received severe shrapnel wound in the battles near Gomel. He was treated long time. He attended the school of sanitary instructors from August to December 1944, after which he was sent to the 2nd Ukrainian Front, to the 317th Infantry Division with the rank of sergeant.

Nikolai Gennadievich took part in the battles for the liberation of Hungary, Austria, and Czechoslovakia from December 1944 to May 1945. He was wounded in the town of Mokra Gora near Brno, in Czechoslovakia. He was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd degree in these battles. He was treated in a hospital in Brno, where he celebrated Victory Day on May 9, 1945.

The division in which Nikolai Gennadievich served was urgently sent to the Far East. Nikolai Gulyaev after recovery was sent to Vienna, to the airfield service battalion. His military unit was redeployed to Tiraspol, where he was serving from May 1945 to January 1951 as a squad commander in the counterintelligence of the 6th Aviation Division. He was demobilized with the rank of senior sergeant in 1951.

Nikolai Gulyaev worked in the internal affairs bodies after the war. He spent 40 years in law enforcement. Two Orders of the Patriotic War, medals “For Military Merit”, “For the Capture of Vienna”, “For the Capture of Budapest” are Among Nikolai Gennadievich’s awards.
