Supreme Council held meeting with PACE delegation

The Parliamentary Speaker emphasized that Pridnestrovie has been striving to comply with international standards in human rights protection since its establishment

Tiraspol, October 15 /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. According to the parliamentary press service, the PMR Supreme Council Chairman Alexander Korshunov met with the Parliamentary Assembly of the Europe Council (PACE) delegation today. The Committee on Social Policy, Health, Labor, Family and Childhood Issues head Sergei Cheban took part in the dialogue together with European parliamentarians.

The chairman of the PACE Committee on Migration, Refugees and Displaced Persons, Pierre-Alain Fridez congratulated Pridnestrovians on the Sheriff team victory over the Spanish Real Madrid team in the Champions’ League group match.

The PMR Supreme Council Chairman Alexander Korshunov expressed his gratitude for congratulations and brought the discussion around to the conversation subject. The speaker stressed that Pridnestrovie has been striving to comply with international standards in the field of human rights protection since its establishment.

“Still in the year of 1992, after the armed conflict ending, despite the international recognition absence, Pridnestrovie independently and unilaterally made a decision to recognize the framework rule of law as well as all international agreements including in the field citizens’ rights and freedoms protecting in the domestic legal field. Particularly, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, as well as the European Convention for Human Rights as well as Fundamental Freedoms Protection (of the year of 1950) and, of course, protocols to these agreements,” the Pridnestrovian Parliament Speaker stressed.

Alexander Korshunov noted that since the year of 2012, Tiraspol has been interacting at the official level with the senior UN expert on human rights in Pridnestrovie, Thomas Hammarberg. As a result of his visits to the republic, several reports on the situation with PMR citizens’ rights and freedoms were presented by him. Every of them confirms that the Pridnestrovian legislation satisfies all the basic international criteria in the field of citizens’ rights and freedoms.

 “We take positions of consistency with all international acts adopted by civilized countries in the citizens’ rights and freedoms field, including the rights to movement,” Alexander Korshunov noted, bearing in mind Moldova and Ukraine’s restriction of movement freedom for Pridnestrovian citizens.

The Pridnestrovian Parliament head stressed that Pridnestrovie, as distinguished from neighboring Moldova, fulfills all agreements signed and is the initiator of the negotiation process revitalization.
