Suvorov, de Volan, Catherine II – these are names that have been heard for more than one century. They have never been forgotten in Pridnestrovie, but for the last couple of years these historical figures have been surrounded by increased attention, especially from Tiraspol residents. There is hardly a modern resident of the Pridnestrovian capital who does not know that these famous figures are directly related to the history of the creation of the city on the Dniester. The gratitude of descendants is stored not only in hearts, but also in monuments. The world famous (recognized as one of the best in the post-Soviet space) monument depicting Generalissimo Suvorov on a war horse was created by sculptors Vladimir and Valentin Artamonov back in 1979. The bust of the first Tiraspol architect Franz de Volan appeared in the center of the city that was designed only in 2007. At the same time, a bust of Catherine the Great was installed (the author of both sculptures is Alexander Tokarev). As it turned out, time did not diminish the respect and gratitude of the residents of Tiraspol. A large park on the embankment was named after de Volan, and a huge park was dedicated to the Great Empress, whose wise decision in 1792 the city was founded. Its opening took place today - on the eve of the 30th anniversary of the formation of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, the capital of which is Tiraspol. The monument to Catherine has also become larger: now she sits majestically on the throne, exactly opposite the commander, who reports to her about the laying of the Tiraspol fortress and ensuring the protection of the southwestern borders of the Russian state.
The opening ceremony of the monument to the All-Russian sole ruler, who played a key role in the history of the city, was attended by the first persons of the Pridnestrovian state, headed by the PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky. He came up with the idea of creating a monument, the historical capsule and the first stone in the foundation of which were laid on October 14, 2019 - on the day of the 227th anniversary of Tiraspol. Today the first flowers fell at the feet of the stone Catherine.
Together with the monument to Catherine the Great, the park bearing her name is officially opened today. The PMR President with his daughter, the Head of the Tiraspol administration, a pupil of Suvorov Military College and a cadet cut the symbolic red ribbon on the entrance arch of the grandiose object of leisure infrastructure in a solemn atmosphere, to the sound of fanfare. Improvement of the city, introduction to the culture of recreation and preservation of history - all these functions are performed by the park complex, created in two years on the initiative and with the support of the PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky.
