The Year of the Pridnestrovian People: Results, Plans, Objectives
29 Jan., 2026, 16:48The second part of today's expanded online meeting was devoted to events held as part of the Year of the Pridnestrovian People. By decision of the PMR President, this status was assigned not only to 2025 but also to 2026. The agency responsible for this activity is the State Service for Culture and Historical Heritage. the Head Maria Kyrmyz presented reports on the results of its work and planned projects. She explained that the 2025 plan included over a hundred items, divided into areas such as preserving and developing the unity of the Pridnestrovian people and strengthening statehood of Pridnestrovie, socially oriented events, healthcare, promoting economic achievements, preserving historical and cultural heritage, sports, publishing, tourism, and landscaping and development. The speaker recalled that the program was developed with two significant dates in mind, both falling in 2025: the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory and the 35th anniversary of the PMR. A series of Open Lessons for schoolchildren and students, led by officials, including PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky, was highlighted among other things. Increased attention was paid to excursion and educational activities: during the first half of the current academic year, 443 excursions were organized for 43770 students. Two hundred lectures and roundtable discussions on the Holocaust and political repression were held, along with approximately 300 classroom and supervisory hours on patriotic topics, 20 seminars and scientific and practical conferences, including international ones, a republican pedagogical forum, "The Role of Education as a Factor in Strengthening the Identity of the Pridnestrovian People," an Orthodox conference, "The Holy War," and a competition, "The Pridnestrovian People Through the Eyes of Children". The cultural and educational sector hosted over 900 events (festivals, concerts, exhibitions, and discussions). In addition, a republican scientific and practical conference, "Preservation of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Pridnestrovie", was held for students of secondary and higher vocational education; a series of seminars, "Kaleidoscope of National Cultures," was held for specialists in the field; six performances of the play "Let's Carry It Through the Years..." by the Pridnestrovian State Drama and Comedy Theater named after Aronetskaya were held at various venues; and republican competitions were held: "Young Performer of Pridnestrovie," "Young Artist of Pridnestrovie," and "Young Dancer of Pridnestrovie " (with a total reach of 1500 students in additional artistic and aesthetic education). Information support was also active. State media prepared approximately 850 diverse materials.
The speaker specifically discussed sports and other activities aimed at preserving the health of Pridnestrovians. She spoke about promoting economic achievements and publishing activities. Maria Kyrmyz reported that the plan has been 93% fulfilled. The declaration of 2026 as the Year of the Pridnestrovian People will allow the work begun to continue. The program has been approved. The President instructed that the work already underway be followed. He highlighted the completion of the six-volume "History of Pridnestrovie" among the tasks. Vadim Krasnoselsky emphasized that the publication should be distributed to all educational institutions in the republic. Subsequently, textbooks for primary, middle, and high school students, as well as for students, will be developed based on this work. Another objective is the completion and opening of the museum complex in Tiraspol. The PMR President reiterated the components of the museum quarter, emphasizing the importance of each sector.
