Тiraspol, October 23 /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. More than 43,000 people took part today in an Assembly of the Pridnestrovian people, which took place in the center of Tiraspol at the All-Pridnestrovian People’s Forum initiative. The Forum called on the republic’s residents to state their position regarding the discriminatory policies of the Moldovan authorities, who are imposing economic restrictions on Pridnestrovie and violating the rights and freedoms of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic’s residents.

Around midday, participants gathered near the Drama Theater and started a procession along the capital’s main street toward the Suvorov Square.

The column was led by the PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky.

“What is happening today - the way neighboring Moldova is infringing upon our rights (political, economic, linguistic) - as well as the fact that Moldova hasn’t yet given a legal assessment of the 1992 war, effectively showing total disregard for the civilians’ deaths all of this’s an ultimate object of people’s anxiety,” the head of state noted in an interview with journalists. “That’s why people want to express both their protest and their own point of view.”

The President emphasized that the Assembly of the Pridnestrovian people is a response to the challenge posed by the current situation.

“Both independence as well as the right to freedom require exertion, energy, and self-awareness. And that’s what we’re witnessing at the moment,” Vadim Krasnoselsky said.

People from every town and district of Prisnestrovie arrived for the public Assembly. The participants’ procession included government officials such as Prime Minister Aleksandr Rozenberg and presidential candidate Vitaly Nyagu as well as the Supreme Council’s leadership and deputies, civic activists, representatives of various workplaces, and students. Young people unfurled a massive, 100-meter-long flag of Pridnestrovie.

As the procession moved along, new participants joined in, and thousands of people arrived at the center of Tiraspol at the very same tribune where, back in the year of 1989, protests had been held against the discriminatory language laws’ adoption.

The gathering began with the playing of the republic’s anthem. In his address, Anatoly Bulda, as the chairman of the All-Pridnestrovian People’s Forum, stated that the purpose of those assembled in the square was to draw the international community’s attention to the violation of the rights of the republic’s residents by the Moldova’s authorities.

The Chairman of the Joint Council of Labor Collectives Vladimir Emelyanov, noted that Moldova pointedly disregards the will expressed by the Pridnestrovian people, blocks the negotiation process, and ignores the international community’s demands to address human rights violations.

“Our fellow citizens are being subjected to mass interrogations, intimidation, and detention at the border near the Chisinau airport. Many Prindnestrovians have been forcibly expelled by the Moldovan regime. They’ve been prevented from returning home to their families, their places of residence, and their jobs. Moldova’s security forces have crossed all lines imaginable —intimidating children and sending so called “signals” to their parents,” the Chairman of the Joint Council of labor collectives Vladimir Emelyanov stated.

The chairman of the Joint Council of Labor Collectives Vladimir Emelyanov pointed out numerous violations of the rights of Pridnestrovians who hold Moldovan citizenship, committed by the Moldovan authorities during elections held within the RM’s territory.

The economic pressure exerted by Moldova was discussed by the Chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of Pridnestrovie Viktor Ivanchenkov.

“As of September 1, our business entities have ceased operations in several areas, because it’s impossible to work under conditions of double or triple taxation,” he noted. “We’re all incurring additional costs. Employees at these enterprises risk losing their jobs and being left without necessary income. And our families face the prospect of financial hardship as well as rising prices.”

Official Chisinau is systematically altering the population’s identity and erasing national memory in order to promote the expansion of a “Romanian-Bessarabian” identity – one with roots reaching back to the periods of Romanian occupation from 1918–1940 and 1941–1944. Such observation was made by Pavel Kuznetsov, a defender of Pridnestrovie and a member of the Public Chamber of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (PMR).

“They understand that as long as the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic exists, the multi-ethnic people of Pridnestrovie have their own rights, as well as protection and the prospect of achieving a peaceful, just future,” he emphasized.

Participants in the meeting unanimously adopted a resolution stressing that the settlement of relations between Pridnestrovie and Moldova can only be peaceful, civilized, and fair free from blackmail, blockades, or any form of coercion.

“We categorically reject any form of pressure on Pridnestrovie. We demand that Moldova put an end to threats, blackmail as well as blockades. We insist that Moldova return to the negotiating table within the international “5+2” format, resume direct dialogue at the level of the parties’ top leadership, and ensure the full functioning of all existing negotiation mechanisms. Negotiations must be aimed at a civilized, peaceful, and fair settlement of relations between Pridnestrovie and Moldova, based on respect for the rights, interests, and will of the people. We call upon international mediators and guarantors to facilitate this process!” is stated in one paragraph of the resolution.

The document adopted at the Assembly of the Pridnestrovian People will be sent to the Supreme Council. The PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky thanked the rally participants for expressing their civic stance.

“I’m convinced that today’s event is, in fact, a response to the challenge that regrettably time presents to us again and again. Both independence and the right to freedom demand exertion, energy, and self-awareness. And today, we are witnessing all of this...” the head of state emphasized.
