Tiraspol, 27 June. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The foreign minister of the PMR, Vitaly Ignatyev, met the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders Michel Forst.
Vitaly Ignatyev said at the beginning of the meeting that Pridnestrovie was committed to all the basic principles and standards in the field of human rights protection.
"Even without a broad international recognition, Pridnestrovie has implemented basic human rights concepts in its legislation," the diplomat said.
According to him, a special legal mechanism has been created in the country, according to which international concepts are recognized as framework laws for the country's domestic legislation. "In particular, this year, the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities has been adopted as a framework law," he added.
Vitaly Ignatyev thanked the UN representatives for their constant attention to the sphere of human rights protection in Pridnestrovie.
"Recently, the UN Senior Expert on Human Rights in Pridnestrovie, Thomas Hammarberg, has paid a visit in Pridnestrovie and analyzed progress in the implementation of his recommendations of 2012-2013. We intend to continue this interaction with the UN and fill it with practical content," the minister underscored.
Michel Forst expressed satisfaction with Thomas Hamarberg's preliminary report on the results of his recent visit to the country.
"Pridnestrovie has seen a number of positive steps forward based on the previous recommendations. This can be the basis for expanding work in the field of human rights, including through the protection of human rights defenders," noted Frost.
The sides discussed the current areas of cooperation in the field of human rights activities in Pridnestovie, exchanged detailed views on the current situation in this area. The interlocutors agreed to further support bilateral communication in this direction in mutual interests, the MFA's press service reports.
The meeting was also attended by interior minister Ruslan Mova, first deputy justice minister Vladislav Zhuk and representative of the prosecutor's office Natalya Vasilyeva.
