Vadim Krasnoselsky met with Thomas Mayr-Harting

OSCE delegation headed by the Special Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office Thomas Mayr-Harting arrived in Tiraspol. The European guests met with the President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Vadim Krasnoselsky. The meeting took place at the presidential executive office. According to the guests, they arrived among other things to prepare for the upcoming visit to Pridnestrovie of the current Chairman of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe Jan Borg.

Vadim Krasnoselsky outlined the current state of affairs in the negotiation process and what expresses Moldova’s true attitude towards the Pridnestrovian people. It was about the stagnated format of the “Permanent Conference...” and the next suppressing round of the blockade of Pridnestrovie by Moldova. The PMR President recalled the chronology of events that led to the complete stagnation of the negotiations, voicing the objective and subjective reasons for the current situation in his opinion. He spoke about the attempts being made by the Pridnestrovian side to revive the work of the “5+2” format, emphasizing that their futility is due to Moldova’s obvious reluctance to interact. Vadim Krasnoselsky emphasized that he is ready for “1+1” contacts – a dialogue between senior officials of the two republics, noting that meetings of political representatives are currently ineffective and their number is minimal.

Vadim Krasnoselsky mentioned in the course of the meeting the so-called law on separatism adopted by Moldova, noting that its provisions cover not only Pridnestrovians, for example, but also representatives of the OSCE, an organization whose report in 1993 stated the impossibility of resolving the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian conflict within the framework of a unitary state. The PMR President focused on recent statements by Moldovan negotiator Oleg Serebrian, indicating Moldova’s unpreparedness for dialogue. According to Vadim Krasnoselsky, such rhetoric puts an end to many years of efforts of the OSCE. Another open question is why Moldovan politicians allow themselves an obvious, unfounded lie that Moldova has social obligations towards the residents of Pridnestrovie.

Vadim Krasnoselsky addressed a reasonable question to European diplomats about why they turn a blind eye to their massive violations against hundreds of thousands of residents of Pridnestrovie, while positioning the organization as a defender of the rights and freedoms of citizens. The PMR President said that Moldova discredits the European Union by its actions, to which it claims membership.

The interlocutors discussed in detail numerous problematic aspects. Thomas Mayr-Harting emphasized that it is important for him to know the position of both sides of the conflict, including for the quality preparation of the upcoming visits to Pridnestrovie and Moldova by the OSCE Chairman-in-Office, scheduled for April 12 this year. The diplomat assured that the OSCE is aimed at resolving existing problems, Jan Borg expects to contribute to improving the situation and will consider a real solution to at least one of the current problems an achievement.

The meeting participants agreed that it is not worth waiting for a miracle, all problems overnight solution, but expressed their readiness for interaction aimed at solving the main task – preserving peace and ensuring respect for the rights of citizens living in Pridnestrovie.
