Alexander Korshunov: Moldova’s actions could lead to a humanitarian catastrophe in the PMR

The Speaker of Parliament commented on the decision to convene the VII Congress of Deputies of all levels

Tiraspol, February 21. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. At the VII Congress of Deputies of all levels, which is scheduled for February 28, the current difficult economic situation in Pridnestrovie will be analyzed. Chairman of the Supreme Council of the PMR Alexander Korshunov told reporters about this today, commenting on the decision of legislators to convene the congress.

He recalled that since the beginning of the year, the Moldovan authorities have unjustifiably introduced customs duties against Pridnestrovian companies and individual entrepreneurs.

According to the speaker of parliament, Moldova’s actions sharply complicate the situation of socially vulnerable citizens - due to the fact that budgets at all levels are suffering losses. There is also a noticeable drop in business activity, and the level of investment attractiveness of Pridnestrovie is decreasing.

“These are serious challenges and risks for the PMR. In this regard, a decision was made to hold the next VII Congress of Deputies of all levels. We believe that today is truly a moment when deputies at all levels should get together and decide what to do in the current situation,” Alexander Korshunov said.

He noted that such congresses were held in the most difficult times for the republic.

According to the Chairman of the Supreme Council, the difficulties that Pridnestrovie faces today are related, among other things, to the supply of food, medicine, as well as parts and spare parts for medical equipment. This does not allow us to provide qualified medical care to the residents of the republic.

“All this could lead to a humanitarian catastrophe. The situation is complicated, and, from my point of view, it is necessary to contact all structures, including European ones, and highlight information that the rights and freedoms of citizens of Pridnestrovie are being violated,” Alexander Korshunov emphasized.

Let us remind you that according to estimates of the State Customs Committee and the Ministry of Economic Development of the PMR, the annual damage from customs duties introduced by Moldova could range from 12 to 30 million dollars.

After February 2022, Chisinau limited the import into the PMR of those medicines that are not included in the Moldovan registers. Because of this, Pridnestrovie today is forced to purchase medicines either from Moldova or from the European Union, where they are more expensive than, for example, in Russia and Belarus. All this led to an increase in prices in the republic's pharmacies.

In 2023, the Moldovan authorities did not allow an X-ray tube for a tomograph in the Republican Veterans Hospital to enter the PMR for three months. Now the same problem exists with regard to X-ray equipment for the tuberculosis dispensary of the Republican Clinical Hospital, as well as the Republican Dental Clinic.
