Maria Zakharova: We see another gross violation of the right to access information

The Russian Foreign Ministry commented on the blocking of two Russian-language news portals in Moldova

The decision to block access in Moldova to the Russian-language news portals Eadaily.com and Bloknot.ru was the next step of the official Chisinau, aimed at completely ousting Russian-language content and Russian-language media from the information space of the republic. This was stated today by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova in her commentary.
She recalled that on February 26 last year, the Moldovan authorities blocked access to the website of the news agency Sputnik-Moldova.
“Similar restrictions were then imposed on the websites of several other Russian and Russian-language Moldovan media,” Zakharova stressed.
She also noted the fact that Russian-language TV channels in Moldova were constantly fined. At the same time, since December 19, six of them had their licenses revoked.
“We consider the blocking of the mentioned information resources [Eadaily.com and Bloknot.ru] as another gross violation by the Moldovan authorities, under frankly far-fetched pretexts, of the principle of ensuring pluralism of opinions and freedom of the media, as well as the right of Russian-speaking residents of Moldova to access information,” the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation said.
She called on Chisinau "to refrain from such steps that have nothing to do with true freedom and democracy, to lift the previously imposed discriminatory bans on the broadcasting of Russian and Russian-language media in the country, to abandon dubious ambitions to appropriate some kind of monopoly on truth."
