Lilia Fiskovich: I wanted to run barefoot in Malta

The Tiraspol runner spoke about the price of her victory at the European Championship for Small Countries

Tiraspol, June 12/ Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Lilia Fiskovich from Tiraspol commented to Novosti Pridnestrovya news agency about her victory in the 5 km distance at the European Championship for Small Countries.

The runner admitted that, despite the gold medal, the result was 16 minutes 42 seconds remained unsatisfied. Blame it on the prohibited pair of running shoes.

“Of course, I’ll remember this race forever. I was in my favorite running shoes. The previous year I competed in them. In Malta, 10 minutes before the start, judges measured their outsole, and it turned out that it was too high (2 cm). And this season isn’t allowed. I already wanted to run barefoot,” the runner describes.

Lilia delayed the start and kept all participants in the race waiting. But once again she proved that she was the best, even in upset feelings and in someone else’s running shoes.

“I tried on all the running shoes, my teammates. In the end, they gave me shoes in size 44: it is much larger than mine. So I ran like in galoshes. At some point, I wanted to leave the distance, but I couldn’t afford to let my team down. I’ll remember this start for a long time. I can’t express by the words how frustrating it was: I was preparing for this start, trying to show the best result, but such stupidity prevented me,” Lilia Fiskovich recognized.

The victory in Malta is already the sixth international success of the Tiraspol player in the current year.

Pridnestrovian athletes won three medals at the European Championship among small countries. Additionally to the gold medal of Lilia Fiskovich, there’re awards in the Swedish relay 100 * 200 * 300 * 400 m. Ivan Galushko won in the men’s team of Moldova, and Tatiana Kontrebuts won a silver medal in the women’s relay.
