Ivan Korshunov won a silver medal at the World Championships

The sportsman lost an athlete from the USA

Tiraspol, February 26 /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The athlete from Tiraspol Ivan Korshunov won a silver medal at the World Championships, conceding only to an athlete from the USA in the final.

The World Rowing Championships on ergometers (stationary rowers) is taking place in the period from 25 to 27 February. During 3 days, the strongest rowers on the planet competed online.

The Tiraspol rowing school trainee Ivan Korshunov competed in the category of up to 23 years. The Pridnestrovian reached the final part already at the qualifying start stage. The decisive race took place on Saturday. Rivals from USA and Belgium became main competitors for Tiraspol sportsman in the fight for the medal. Despite the fact, during the race Ivan Korshunov was the fourth one; at its end, he still took second place. 

“We didn’t even prepare for this Championship, because our basic training is proceeding at full speed. We just filmed a video and sent it to the organizers. At the end of the previous year, they appeared, and literally, a few weeks before the start we were told that Vanya reached the finals. We were pleased and it’s important for an athlete to participate in the finals of such a significant competition,” the rowing coach Konstantin Gamalitsky noted.

The Pridnestrovian Rowing Federation noted that the silver medal won indicates that at the moment Ivan Korshunov is at a high level. However, then the Tiraspol sportsman will fight only for gold medals.
