The RF State Duma deputy: Peacekeeping mission to Pridnestrovie is not only effective but also successful

Artem Turov emphasized: not a single shot has been fired in 30 years

Tiraspol, June 11. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The peacekeeping operation to Pridnestrovie is effective and affords an opportunity the republic to live and develop in peace. This was stated by Artem Turov, the Russian Federation State Duma deputy, a member of the State Duma committee on (Commonwealth of Independent States) CIS Affairs, Eurasian integration as well as relations with compatriots.

“This is the most successful peacekeeping mission throughout the world, where not a single shot has been fired or a drop of blood has been shed during the past 30 years. The Russian parliamentarian emphasized that the mission is effective, successful and makes it possible to live, exist and develop in peace, that our citizens, our compatriots are living in safety and protection.”

In July of the year of 1992 the Moldovan armed aggression against Pridnestrovie was stopped by the Russian Federation. Prior to that, several conciliatory commissions, including those with the international representatives’ participation tried to halt the war on the Dniester river. However, the observers’ mission was unable to prevent the Moldovan armed formations’ attacks on Bendery town in June 1992. The bloodshed had ceased only with the Russian peacekeepers’ arrival.

The peacekeeping operation under the Russian Federation auspices has been implemented in Pridnestrovie since the year of 1992 on the basis of interstate agreements. It’s recognized as one of the most successful in history: since its inception hostilities haven’t resumed, not a single participant in the peacekeeping mission has perished. In addition to the Russian Federation, the parties to the conflict – PMR and RM, as well as a group of military observers from Ukraine take part in it. The Russian Federation military peacekeeping contingent is formed from the Operational Group of Russian Forces in Pridnestrovie.

At the same time, Moldova has been making attempts through the years to withdraw Russian peacekeepers from Pridnestrovie. This, particularly, has been repeatedly stated by the current President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, whose statements were supported by NATO. The organization Secretary-General, Jens Stoltenberg, noted that Russia allegedly violates the “inviolability of Moldova’s territory” by deploying peacekeepers in Pridnestrovie.

The Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly noted that the withdrawal of peacekeepers is possible only after the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian conflict settlement.

Earlier, the PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky declared that any attempt to disrupt the existing mechanism that guarantees peace could lead to the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian conflict reversion to the situation of the early 90s. Due to the misregulating of both state and legal relations, Pridnestrovie and Moldova don’t have a comprehensive agreement that would exclude the opportunity of the direct military confrontation’ continuation, Vadim Krasnoselsky explained.
