PRIDNESTROVIAN CHESS PLAYERS ARE SILVER WINNERS OF THE MOLDOVA CHAMPIONSHIP

The contests revealed the strongest players among men and women

Tiraspol, February, 9. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. During this week the Moldova Classic Chess Championship final was held in Chisinau. 10 men and 10 women had a claim on victory. The men's tournament had a strong team. Half of the participants had high international ranks.

Pridnestrovie was represented by Bendery grandmaster Vladimir Hamitsevich and 12-year-old chess player from Tiraspol Anna Varyokha. Vladimir Hamitsevich takes part in the tournament on a regular basis. He has several medals, including gold one. Anna Varyokha first appeared in the finals of the adult championship. She got that right, having become the winner of the semi-finals. 

Pridnestrovian athletes played well in the last two rounds and went up to the second line in the standings. In the last round, Vladimir Hamitsevich beat the experienced Dmitry Svetushkin.

Vladimir Hamitsevich scored 6.5 points out of 9 possible and shared the first and second places with Chisinau athlete Andrei Makovei. According to additional indicators Bendery chess player was on the second place. 

The championship debutant Anna Varyokha was on the fourth place. Two wins at the finish and victory over the principal rival Valentina Verbin allowed the player from Tiraspol to go higher. She has 5.5 points out of 9 and a silver medal. Not a single chess player in the modern history of Pridnestrovie has gone so high in the Moldavian championship.

Only the international master Svetlana Petrenko from Chisinau appeared to be ahead. She lost only half a point during the tournament.
