Vadim Krasnoselsky: ‘But for Pridnestrovie, there would no Moldavians on the world map’

The president commented on a decision by Moldova's constitutional court to change the country's official language

Tiraspol, 27 November. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The decision by the Constitutional Court of Moldova allowing the parliament to change the name of the official language from "Moldavian" to "Romanian" in the constitution confirms once again that the roads of Tiraspol and Kishinev have increasingly diverged, whereas to discuss the political component of the settlement means to be isolated from reality. This is what Pridnesrtrovian President Vadim Krasnoselsky said in an interview with Russia's Izvestia.

"Our state is called the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic. This is the territory where the Moldavian ethnos, culture and alphabet have been preserved. By and large, I'm the president of the Moldavians. The language is fundamental, so but for Pridnestrovie, there would be no Moldavians on the world map. And the fact that Moldova is raising this thorny issue is wrong, short-sighted and erroneous. But this is their choice," said the president.

Krasnoselsky added that if Moldova held a referendum to recognise Romanian as the official language or even to join Romania, Pridnestrovie would respect the people's decision. But this would reaffirm that "Prdnestrovie and Tiraspol are going in opposite directions."
