Abkhazia's BSH Cossacks: Pulling out Russian peacekeepers from Pridnestrovie unacceptable

Abkhazian Cossacks are concerned about Moldova's attempts to change the peacekeeping format in the region

Tiraspol, 9 October. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The Ataman Council of the Abkhazian Black Sea Cossack Host and war veterans have expressed their suppost for Pridnestrovie and its people.

"We are wary of attempts aimed to undermine the situation in Pridnestrovie, to get Russia to pull out its peacekeepers and unfreeze the conflict, pushing the country into a war," says the statement.

The Abkhazian Cossack community is concerned about Moldova's attempts to change the existing peacekeeping format. According to them, this will destabilise the situation in the PMR.

"Changing the peacekeeping format and pulling out Russian peacekeepers and the OGRF from Pridnestrovie are simply unacceptable in a situation in which the leaders of the USA and EU are conducting their destructive work in the post-USSR countries, continuing to incite entire nations to armed conflicts," says the statement.

In this regard, the Abkhazian Cossacks have expressed support for the initiatives of the Black Sea Cossack Host and the Pridnestrovian president in protecting Pridnestrovie's statehood and its people and noted they "are ready to stand side by side".

Earlier, the aggressive actions of the Moldovan leadership  were condemned by the Pridnestrovian Cossacks, who expressed dismay at persistent attempts to bring Russian peacekeepers and the OGRF out of Pridnestrovie, which will inevitably lead to the unfreezing of the conflict and the real threat of war.

In May, the Constitutional Court of Moldova declared the presence of Russian peacekeepers in Pridnestrovie illegal. The Russian military was equated to the occupying forces. The Moldovan authorities attempted to disrupt the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the peacekeeping operation. The Modlovan peacekeeping contingent refused to take part in the celebration, and Russia's vice premier, Dmitry Rogozin, was denied entry to Moldova. After that the Russian military attaché, who was also a memeber of the Joint Control Commission, was declared persona non grata. The Moldovan authorities tried to put the issue of Russian peacekeepers in Moldova on the UN General Assembly's agenda.

Members of Pridnestrovian veteran organisations and trade unions have announced the collection of signatures in support of the current format of the peacekeeping operation and against the withdawal of Russian peacekeepers and OGRF soldiers.
