Time to stop 'running in circles': Pridnestrovie proposes to work out a functional mechanism ensuring the implementation of the agreements

Foreign minister: "Moldova should adhere to the principles and procedures for the conduct of negotiations which clearly regulate the conduct of meetings in the international "5+2" format"

The formula for overcoming the continuing pause in the negotiations between Kishinev and Tiraspol and the crisis in dialogue lies on the surface — it is necessary to observe the principles and procedures for negotiations which clearly regulate meetings in the international "5+2" format, Pridnestrovian foreign minister, Vitaly Ignatye, said in an interview with TASS.

He also noted it was also necessary to hold regular meetings of the Permanent Conference without pauses and false preconditions.

"Thirdly, it is necessary to work out a functional mechanism ensuring the implementation of the decisions made by the parties at the negotiating level in order to avoid a long race in circles related to Kishinev's failure to comply with the overwhelming majority of the agreements," added the diplomat.

The diplomat underscored that the positions of Pridnestrovie on the current situation in the negotiations were the same.

"We proceed from the common understanding of reality and that there are no objective obstacles to the resumption of systemic and meaningful work at all levels of the negotiating process," said the minister.

Commenting on the reaction of the country's leadership to the deportation from Kishinev Airport of the Supreme Council's representative to Russia Olga Gukalenko, Ignatyev recalled that Pridnestrovie's MFA had urgently appealed to Moldova's chief negotiator and informed about the incident the mediators and observers in the negotiating process calling for their assessment and facilitation of a speedy resolution of the incident.

"The situation is outrageous since Kishinev has prevented our citizen from going to her permanent place of residence. This is not only a gross violation of international human rights and Moldova's disregard of its commitments during the negotiations but also a demonstration of permissiveness, an assumption of the right to filter out undesirable persons from the permanent residents of Pridnestrovie," underscored the minister.

He noted that his Moldovan counterpart had found it difficult to provide substantive explanations, referring to the lack of information from the Moldovan law enforcement authorities and once again promising to grasp the problem.

"The inhuman actions of Moldova against certain Pridnestrovian citizens provoke an escalation of tension, which requires the concerted efforts of international actors to restore justice as soon as possible and to prevent a deterioration of the conflict," concluded the diplomat.
