UN specialists to conduct training for Pridnestrovie's law enforcers

They will share practical advice to ensure security in the process of working with drug addicts and HIV-infected people The decision to cooperate was made at a meeting with Pridnestrovie's interior minister

Tiraspol, 9 July. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Representatives of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime in Moldova came to meet Pridnestrovie's interior minister. This meeting was initiated by the guests, the ministry's press service clarifies. As the UNODC coordinator, Inna Tkach, explained, they propose that a common vision be developed for the prevention, treatment and care of HIV-infected people, as well as for the prevention of HIV among injecting drug users.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of the MFA and the Ministry of Justice. The UN representatives told the interior minister, Ruslan Mova, about the main stages of the project and some of the achievments. The minister headed for 10 years the department for combatting organised crime and corruption and, at the same time, was the chair of the foundation «Society Against Drugs»; therefore, he became interested in the subject the guests touched upon.

As the minister noted, Pridnestrovian society, as well as the population of most states in the world, is afflicted by many social ills, including drugs and HIV. Only together, despite borders and political disunity, can we confront this epidemic.

As a result of the meeting, the leaders adopted a unanimous decision to start cooperation. And the first step will be a training seminar for Pridnestrovian law enforcers. UN specialists intend to share practical advice to ensure security in the process of working with drug addicts and HIV-infected people. The seminar will be held in the premises of the Interior Ministry on 11 and 12 September.
