Pridnestrovian firefighters demonstrate new fire engine's potential

For seven days British firemen have trained their Tiraspol colleagues

Tiraspol, 12 May. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. A week ago British firemen donated a Volvo fire engine equipped with the necessary professional appliances to a Tiraspol fire brigade (SVPCh-1). After seven days of training, the local firefighters demonstrated in action the new engine's potential.

«We want to train and provide special equipment to all rescuers so that they will be able to successfully carry out their duties in the line of fires and emergencies throughout the world," said the head of a British fire brigade, Dave Feston.

The special equipment includes a two-step pump, operating at both high and low pressures to control the flow of water during fire extinguishing, and hydraulic instruments to open locked doors of any design or to extract a victim from a damaged car.

The equipment is also designed to eliminate the consequences of natural disasters.

«We have always been on firm ground; we've never feared fire, but now we are going to extinguish fires better and more quickly," said the deputy chief of the Tiraspol Fire Department, Viktor Karpenko.

The new vehicle will stand on alert soon. Only 24 people have been trained so far, but there are plans to train all the personnel.
