Tiraspol, 25 January. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The Supreme Council of the PMR has left unchanged the current vote threshold in the presidential elections. MP Oleg Khorzhan's proposal to increase it from 25% to 50% has not been supported by the majority.

«The abolishment of a threshold plants a delayed-action mine for any head of state. I will submit it [a bill] until it passes," said Khorzhan.

According to most legislators, this problem has been deliberately raised for specific political purposes.

«It is necessary to realise the political logic of the development of events. For 26 years we have been negotiating with various countries and organisations. No one has ever actually raised the issue of turnout," said MP Andrey Safonov.

He added that those who were not going to recognise our republic in principle would not do it even if turnout was 75%.

The draft law «On amendments to the Electoral Code of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic» has been rejected on first reading.
