Unlawful obstruction of business activity to be criminalised

The Supreme Council committee for legislation recommends the parliamentary session to adopt amendments to the criminal code

Tiraspol, 24 January. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Unlawful criminal proceedings will entail criminal liability provided this act has been committed to obstruct business activities for self-serving or other interests. The corresponding bill by Galina Antyufeyeva was approved and recommended for consideration by the parliamentary committee for legislation.

Criminal liability may face officials if unlawful acts lead to the cessation of business activities or great damage to businesses. As a punishment, the bill's author suggests deprivation of liberty for a term from 5 to 10 years with subsequent deprivation of the right to hold certain posts for up to 5 years.

«The reason for this bill was the fact that it is actually a common situation where criminal proceedings are brought on the fact of the offence rather than against a particular entrepreneur. Such cases are investigated for several months and then discontinued, which results in the partial or complete destruction of businesses," reads the draft law.

The year 2017 has been declared the Year of the Entrepreneur in Pridnestrovie.
