Pridnestrovian president and OSCE special representative discuss railway issue

The special representative of the OSCE chairman-in-office, Wolf Dietrich Heim, arrived on a working visit in Pridnestrovie

Tiraspol, 19 January. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Railway traffic was one of the major issues discussed today during a meeting of President Vadim Krasnoselsky with Special Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office Wolf Dietrich Heim.

The head of state recalled that the sides had agreed to resume the normal rail freight traffic in Pridnestrovie during the last round of negotiations in the «5+2» format, which took place on 2−3 June 2016 in Berlin.

According to the president, Pridnestrovie drafted its proposals long ago. In particular, they include the transportation of cargoes across the PMR by Pridnestrovie's rolling stock and customs clearance by the local customs authorities of goods imported for domestic consumption.

As Novosti Pridnestrovya has already reported, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PMR is planning to conclude a new railway agreement with Moldova by the end of 2017. Pridnestrovian diplomats have already worked out a project and sent it to the Moldovan side. Moldovan negotiators, however, have made no efforts so far to agree upon the document. The foreign ministry hopes that the international partners of Pridnestrovie, including the Austrian OSCE chairmanship-in-office, will accelerate work in this field.
