Bendery, 18 January. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The reconstruction of the historical military memorial Bendery Fortress will continue; there are also plans to erect new cultural objects on its territory and lay out a park. This is what President Vadim Krasnoselsky said today during an off-site meeting which took place in the historical museum Bendery Fortress.

The Bendery Fortress has long become a hallmark of Bendery and of the entire Pridnestrovie. Many visitors begin to explore our country from the stronghold on the Dniester bank.

«Delegations, tourists can see that Pridnestrovie is a state that cherishes its history, customs, culture. So, work in this direction should be continued. The more we invest in culture, the more attractive for tourists we will be. I see the Bendery Fortress as a cultural and historical centre of the republic which can benefit the city — from creating a tour itinerary on the whole to visiting specific places. To this end, we'll have to elaborate a mechanism to implement this idea," said the president during the meeting.

The main idea of the concept voiced by Vadim Krasnoselsky is to make the museum Bendery Fortress open for visitors from Panin St through the so-called Tsargrad Gates. Now the entrance is blocked by the army's checkpoint.

The president instructed relevant services to develop a project of the entrance to the fortress in the form of a rectangular or a watch tower of the citadel.

«The project will be complex. But the idea is that people going along Panin St can see at once the entrance to the fortress. The very entrance will attract visitors to enter and visit this historic place," explained Vadim Krasnoselsky.

The entire territory from the Tsargrad Gates to the Citadel will become a historical and cultural zone. A fortress park will be laid out around St Alexander Nevsky Church. Some historical objects will also be constructed there. It is suggested to open there some national cuisine restaurants, as well as a playground, which will not spoil the historic view of the fortress. A number of dilapidated buildings on the territory, in the meantime, will be pulled down, and some other objects will be moved to other places.

A concrete area near the church will be kept and used as a drill ground. «Ceremonies will be shown there on the first Saturday of each month: changing of the guard of the Preobrazhensky Regiment in historical uniform, demonstration of skills by cadets, Suvorov military school trainees and the ceremonial company, using historical weaponry, rifles, cannons," said the president.

The president pointed out that although the Bendery Fortress is of Turkish origin, it is an object of Russian military glory. Thousands of Russian soldiers, officers and generals gave up their lives when taking the fortress.

«Therefore, if we call ourselves Russia's outpost, which we really are, the entire history of the fortress proves this fact. All our work is to confirm one more time our destiny as an outpost of Russia and part of the Russian world," said the head of state.

Vadim Krasnoselsky underscored that even today the Bendery Fortress serves as a defensive facility. «This is, perhaps, a unique situation where old structures have preserved their defensive function. There is a military installation in the fortress, which will remain there as a training centre," underscored the president.

All architecture and planning decisions voiced at the meeting will be developed by Bendery's municipal design bureau. It is expected that ANO Eurasian Integration will also take part in the reconstruction of the Bendery Fortress.

As Vadim Krasnoselsky noted, all works should be completed by October 2019.
