'Green corridor' changing direction: instead of discussing Pridnestrovie's exports Moldova is provoking debates on Russian troops withdrawal

In his article in the Russia in Global Politics magazine, Pridnestrovie's foreign minister writes about the degradation of the negotiation process

Tiraspol, 30 November. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Bringing the alarming changes that have taken place in recent years to a metaphor, one can note that if after the resumption of the work of the "Permanent conference..." there was an official discussion of the establishment of "green corridors" for Pridnestrovian goods, Pridnestrovian transport and Pridnestrovian citizens, today Moldova is provoking debates on a "green corridor" to withdraw Russian troops and armaments stationed in the PMR. This is what the foreign minister of the PMR, Vitaly Ignatyev, writes in his article in the Russia in Global Politics magazine.

He notes that since around mid-2014 the situation has begun to notably deteriorate under the impact of a number of serious factors which are not directly related to the Moldo-Pridnestrovian dialogue.

"The factors that determined this degradation are related to tectonic changes in Russian-Ukranian relations, as well as in relations between Russia and the West (both over Ukraine and in general) which have resulted in a significant shift of accents and reformatting contacts on the axis Ukraine-Moldova and Ukraine-Pridnestrovie. The confrontation between Russia and the West has affected the Moldo-Pridnestrovian settlement not only through the prism of Ukraine's approach but also through the reforming of the stance of the US and the EU, which are also members of the "Permanent conference...", both on Russia and on negotiations between Pridnestrovie and Moldova," underscores Ignatyev.

The diplomat pointed out that changing approaches or the inertia of key players for Moldova have allowed the Moldovan side to start an active phase of disrupting the previously agreed "small steps" tactics and a systemic revision of its position on the nature of the dialogue with Pridnestrovie.
