Tiraspol, 15 November. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Under the amended procedure, from now on foreign citizens and stateless persons who have come to a spouse or a close relative (father, mother, children) who are Pridnestrovian citizens and possess real assets have the right to obtain a residence permit without the need for the compulsory three-year residence in the PMR. As is clarified by the president's press service, the residence permit shall precede the procedure of acquiring the citizenship of the PMR.
Earlier, on 25 October 2016, the president signed a decree simplifying the procedure of obtaining Pridnestrovian citizenship for foreign citizens and stateless persons possessing real assets in the republic or those who are engaged in implementing investment or innovation projects.
These categories of persons and their spouses, close relatives applying for Pridnestrovian citizenship shall not receive a residence permit in Pridnestrovie prior to acquiring citizenship and prior to the expiration of the three-year term of residing in Pridnestrovie.
After receiving the registration, the categories indicated in the president's decree have the right to apply for Pridnestrovian citizenship in compliance with the law. The foreign citizens and stateless persons specified in Clause 3 of Article 12 of the law on «Citizenship of the PMR» are not subject to compliance with the condition of the one-year residence in the country prior to obtaining the citizenship of the PMR.
The president has made a decision to amend the current procedure of acquiring Pridnestrovian citizenship following numerous requests voiced during the regular meetings of the president with the residents of cities and districts.
In order to promptly and timely inform the public about amendments in the procedure of obtaining Pridnestrovian citizenship, President Shevchuk has given a number of relevant assignments to the Ministry of the Interior and the heads of state administrations of cities and districts.
The decree comes into force on the day following the day of its official publication.
