Situation in Security Zone remains under control

Bendery, 20 October. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The candidacy of senior military commander and military observer for the Republic of Moldova were approved today during a meeting of the Joint Control Commission (JCC). The sides also heard reports on the situation in the Security Zone over the past two weeks.

As was noted by member of the Pridnestrovian delegation to the JCC Vasily Vakarchuk, the situation remains under control.

«Despite the fact that the governing body is not fully-operational, all the other institutions of the peacekeeping operation work quite effectively," said Vakarchuk.

According to him, attempts to have a substantive dialogue during the discussion of the agenda have failed. The Pridnestrovian side asked their Moldovan colleagues to clarify the remarks made by Moldova's acting co-chair. As we have informed, on 6 October 2016, when discussing the issue of free movement in the Security Zone, the member of the Moldovan delegation, who introduced himself as the acting Moldovan JCC co-chair, S. Golovachev, used in relation to Pridnestrovian representatives such expressions as «Taliban» and «Taliban group».

However, the Moldovan negotiators have not given an unambiguous response to this incident so far.

«This is an indecent act by the adjoining side, which along with us is part of the official body," underscored Vasily Vakarchuk.
