SCC: food imports decrease by 8% in 5 months

The customs committee believes it is related primarily to a decrease in food supplies to Pridnestrovie by the country's major importer

Tiraspol, 8 June. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The volume of food imports to Pridnestrovie decreased by 8% in the first five months of 2016 as compared with the same period in 2015, Natalya Tarapata, a deputy head of the analytical department of Pridnestrovie's State Customs Committee, said in an interview with journalists.

«This is due to a 21% reduction in food supplies by the major importer," she noted.

In the meantime, according to Natalya Tarapata, amid the decrease in supplies by the major supplier, other food importers have boosted their foreign economic operations. They have imported 7% more food products than in the first half of 2015.

The same applies to the import of petroleum, oil and lubricants (POL). «As opposed to the previous year, this reduction totals 12% in volume terms and has been caused by a 31% drop in POL supplies by the major importer," said the SCC officer.
