Government's press service: MPs' indefatigable curiosity may ruin MMZ's business reputation

Tiraspol, 30 May. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The government has received a copy of a letter by the management and personnel of JSC Moldova Steel Works to the chair of the Supreme Council. Having learnt the futility of their efforts to call lawmakers for an understanding and a constructive dialogue at plenary sessions, the plant's personnel have addressed directly to the head of the legislative branch of power.

The letter speaks about the implications caused by the agiotage instigated by lawmakers and commercial media outlets around the flagship of Pridnestrovian industry, the government's press service reports. Thus, the official address says that rash statements made by some MPs during one of sessions about the forthcoming stoppage of the steel works «are false and unconfirmed, damaging the enterprise's business reputation».

It is because of those statements, as is underscored, MMZ has received five letters from its business partners who do not only express concern over the tense situation and demand explanations, but also insist on reviewing trade principles, in particular on additional guarantees of the steel works fulfilling its obligations. As is noted by the authors of the letter, these are strategic partners, including from Europe, whose orders amount to nearly 80% of the plant's exports. In case cooperation agreements are dissolved, economic implications for the plant may turn out fatal.

«Such a situation amid the global economic crisis, when every business partner is vital for us, is serious and disturbing. The Supreme Council's rostrum is not the place for people's deputies to make various unfounded and unconfirmed statements, trying to increase their political rating," reads the address.

According to the letter, «as of 25 May 2016, the plant successfully works, fulfils contracts and other contractual liabilities to its partners.»

«The management of JSC Moldova Steel Works is doing its best to assure the stable functioning of the plant, uninterrupted supply of metal scrap and collateral materials. Permanent negotiations are held with metal scrap suppliers, which will secure the plant's uninterrupted performance, payment of wages and the fulfilment of other tasks," say MMZ representatives.

To present a fuller picture, the government's press service quotes extracts from the plant's address to parliamentarians: «Today JSC Moldova Steel Works is an enterprise whose main shareholder is the state. A statement made by an MP about the possible stoppage of the state-run enterprise suggests deputies are not interested in ensuring stable operations of the plant, which employs about 2,500 workers.

«A lack of any response from the chair of the Supreme Council of the PMR may testify to silent acquiescence to aggravate the situation around the plant and create tensions in its work, which cannot in any way guarantee its stable, placid and normal operations.»

The main demand of the plant's management and personnel is to oblige commercial media to refute unfounded information about the enterprise's performance. Besides, they request the speaker of the parliament «to take measures ensuring MPs' observance of deputy ethics, restricting MPs' statements which may tarnish the state-run plant's business reputation.»

Metallurgists conclude their letter with an appeal to accumulate efforts amid difficult economic conditions and create a beneficial political and economic environment in the country instead of aggravating the already difficult situation.

The government shares the view point of MMZ's personnel and insists on proceeding to open and efficient cooperation between all branches of power to achieve the common goal — the minimisation of the negative implications of the global economic crisis, stabilisation of the domestic political situation and securing the progressive development of the economy and the country as a whole.
