Yury Ganin: Pridnestrovie needs to solve Russian rouble conversion problem

According to the president of Pridnestrovie's CCI, this may be a special exchange rate for exporters trading with Russia

Tiraspol, 24 May. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Pridnestrovie needs to increase the volume of its exports to Russia. But it is important to solve the problem of Russian rouble conversion. This is what the president of the PMR's Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), Yury Ganin, and the minister of economic development, Dmitry Boltrushko, discussed on the Vovremya. Itogi TV show.

Dmitry Boltrushko reminded the audience that during his recent visit to Russia's ministry of industry and trade the possibility of holding a Russian-Pridnestrovian dialogue had been agreed on. Its date and format would be determined soon.

«A substantial reduction in exports to Russia is basically due to the devaluation of the Russian rouble and the conditions in the Russian market formed in the 4th quarter of 2014. At present we see a considerable potential in exporting agricultural products to the Russian market. Certain stimulating actions have been taken in this respect, and some of our enterprises have already felt it. Besides, we are interested in industrial cooperation, which saw its rise after the collapse of the USSR. Now many of these ties are lost. Nevertheless, there are enterprises which employ an industrial cooperation framework and which are closely connected with Russian partners," said Dmitry Boltrushko.

Referring to the reasons why Pridnestrovian fruit and vegetables do not sell as well as other countries' products, the CCI president, Yury Ganin, explained that the net cost of domestic goods went under to competition from, for example, Poland's apples.

«Two problems have to be solved to enter the Russian market: good price and high quality. We actively develop cooperation between our phytosanitary agencies on quality issues. Yet we have a number of problems. Among them are the enhancement of local laboratories, the recognition of our phytosanitary certificates, transit through Ukraine," noted Yury Ganin.

He added that during the 4th Investment Economic Forum the majority of exporters had argued that Pridnestrovie must solve the problem of Russian rouble conversion.

«Be it a special exchange rate for exporters trading with Russia or some other methods, but we must find a balance. In the near future recommendations will be given by Russian experts as to which is the right way of pursuing a monetary policy to recover the balance in the Russian market and in other countries' markets where this balance was disturbed. This is a key point of the strategy Pridnestrovie must assume to solve the crisis," underscored Yury Ganin.

He recalled that there had been a period in the country's history when a special exchange rate was introduced for exporters to convert non-cash assets.
