Lavrov: 5+2 format should be gradually restored based on small steps tactics

Russia's foreign minister, Sergey Lavrov, commented on the results of his meeting with the minister of foreign affairs and European reintegration of Moldova, vice premier Andrei Galbur

Tiraspol, 4 April /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The negotiation format of the permanent conference on political issues (5+2) should be revived, the Russian foreign minister told journalists following a meeting with his Moldovan counterpart. According to the Russian diplomat restoring the efficiency of this negotiation forum should be must be based on small steps tactics.

«We have a common view of the role of the 5+2 format as a generally recognised format within which the negotiation process should be held. We also agree to gradually restoring the viability of this mechanism based on small, but concrete steps and pass from simple to difficult issues," noted the Russian foreign minister.

Sergey Lavrov underscored that Russia is ready to continue fulfilling its functions as a mediator in negotiations and a guarantor of achieved agreements. «We are interested in overcoming the current period of distrust between Kishinev and Tiraspol and finding a solution that meet the interests of comprehensive and viable settlement of this situation," concluded the head of the Russian MFA.
