Yevgeny Shevchuk: cutting trading relations with the EU would entail a serious and long crisis in Pridnestrovie

Budget expenditures would amount to tens of millions dollars

Tiraspol, 24 December. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The extension of a free trade regime with the EU is a topic of primary interest in Pridnestrovie and was also paid attention to at the presidential press conference. As was noted by Yevgeny Shevchuk, the information that our enterprises have retained the opportunity to benefit from selling goods to the EU markets went public only at the beginning of December. According to the president, it is difficult to estimate what would happen if this decision had not been made, but anyway the implications would be very grave.

«We could lose almost 46−48% of foreign markets, which means that nearly 10,000 people would lose their jobs. According to different estimates, the budget would fall short of $30−50 million," said the president.

He noted that the country would plunge into a serious and profound crisis and it would be necessary to take some additional emergency measures in the socio-economic sphere.

«The risks were considerable, but today it can be stated that in 2016, based on preliminary information, when selling goods to the EU markets, the Pridnestrovian economy will enjoy the same trading regime as far as it concerns tariff payments," noted Yevgeny Shevchuk.
