President: state's attitude to mass media is very democratic in Pridnestrovie

At the same time Yevgeny Shevchuk noted that commercial media present information fragmentary "in the interests of certain circles"

Tiraspol, 24 December. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The state's attitude to the mass media is indeed very democratic, but citizens should evaluate information attacks, separating «sponsored» reports from real, said President Shevchuk of the Pridnestrovian media outlets during the year-end press conference.

«The state's attitude towards the mass media is very democratic. This was evident during the election campaign — everyone spoke what they wanted to," said Yevgeny Shevchuk.

At the same time, according to the president, commercial media often present information fragmentary and «in the interests of certain circles» which finance them,

«Throughout the year the majority of the government's projects have been presented in a negative way. They say that pensions were not paid in full volume, but fail to mention that we maintain a stable currency exchange rate and population's incomes," clarified Yevgeny Shevchuk.

The president expressed concern over the use of information technologies broadcasting «the ideology of destruction», when «we do not see anything positive, say that everything is bad and do nothing to improve the situation.»

«Those who love the state — media outlets, public organisations, authorities — will not distort the real situation. And those who don't will do everything for the money they are paid and, as it is said, 'will dance at the funerals'. This became evident during the election campaign," said Yevgeny Shevchuk.

The president urged the citizens of Pridnestrovie «to carefully evaluate the information attacks made by the media as in the majority of cases they have concrete targets and aimed at safeguarding economic interests of various circles.

«The public authorities have done it right and allowed our society to appraise the behaviour of public figures, and later on citizens will be able to see the results of the work of new persons in the political arena," said Yevgeny Shevchuk, commenting the work of the mass media during the election campaign.
