President of PMR: If the ruble collapsed, poverty would extend like plague

Yevgeny Shevchuk emphasized answering the questions of journalists from Rossiyskaya Gazeta about countermeasures against economic pressure that keeping stable rate of national currency was a main victory of the country leadership.

«After the beginning of war in Ukraine and undeclared economic blockade, it was expected that national currency would collapse and poverty would extend like plague then. There would be a full-scale economic crisis," the President of PMR noted.

According to him, the decision to withhold salaries and pensions partly is a «softer» option, than the collapse of national currency.

«Obviously, we cannot pay 100% salaries and pensions just yet, but it is much softer option and it is not a thing which was expected by those who work against us at all," the Head of state emphasized.

The President emphsized that the measure was temporary and the solution depends on external factors more.

«Side effect of this war is payment of partial salaries to the state employees and pensions. But we will cope with this problem. It is temporary, and it also depends on external factors foremost. As soon as external economic situation is stabilized, we will be able to plan repayment of debts," Shevchuk declared.

Yevgeny Shevchuk noted that at the same time agiotage on this topic didn't subside.

«Agiotage increases now: massive attack is organized in social media, state authorities are defamed and the socio-political situation is rocked. It is a well organized and consistent work. So, I'd like to ask a question to all sane people: what will be with Pridnestrovie if one of such plans of the so-called paid protest comes in effect? In my opinion, the answer is obvious. Pridnestrovie will disappear. It is an aim," the President summarized.
