Pridnestrovie's government will make a claim against the Sheriff Company for the protection of its business reputation. The reason for filing a claim to the court was the circulation of the open letter by the company's CEO, Supreme Council deputy Dmitriy Ogirchuk to the Prime Minister, Tatyana Turanskaya, which directly affects the business reputation of the executive authority, announced the deputy prime minister on legal regulations, Alexander Kisnichan.

«We believe the information presented in the letter (posted on the company's website and distributed through the chain of Sheriff supermarkets, ed.) is untrue and defamatory. In fact, it discredits the government and misleads citizens," said Kisnichan.

After analysing the letter, the government has particularly found that the statement «about the absurdity of the approved rates of some import customs duties» is untrue and defame the business reputation. «This wording is inadmissible since taking any decision requires the government to abide by a whole range of terms and evaluate the impact of its decisions," noted the deputy premier.

The government also claims as untrue the information that «as a result of the measures taken in 2014 budget revenues from excise goods have been reduced to nil» and that «the customs duty increase has resulted in higher prices, fall in trading volume and tax payments.» According to Alexander Kisnichan, the Finance Ministry and the SCC has confirmed this information is wrong.

The vice premier noted it is the first time when the government has to file such a claim to the court and this situation is not quite ordinary and standard.» The minister of justice, Olfga Zvarych, said the government has every legal foundation to file a claim.
