Pridnestrovie's infant mortality rate down thanks to modern medical equipment

The lives of 46 children who were in need of respiration protection and cardiovascular system protection have been saved

The head of the newborn reanimation and intensive care unit of the Republican Centre of Mother and Child, Viktor Palamarchuk, recalled that a special presidential programme on medical equipment substitution has been under way in Pridnestrovie since 2012.

The number of the newborn who are in need of medical assistance increases by 10% each year, doctors say. Some of them weigh below one kilogramme.

«There has been a clear fertility increase in our centre. Last year there were about 2,000 births in the centre — 2007 children were born. We overcame the figure of 2,000 for the first time in many years. And we are very proud of the fact," underscored the head of the observational and delivery unit, Svetlana Tostanovskaya.

This year the positive trend is continuing. There were 990 newborns in the first half of 2015 (62 more than in the same period in 2014). What is important there is an increase in the number of second and third labours. Twins and triplets are not rare today as well.

The professionalism of our doctors and technical capacity are the earnest of success, the Republican Centre believes. Thanks to the modern equipment, Pridnestrovie's infant mortality rate has considerably decreased.

Lung ventilators, noninvasive lung ventilators, pulse oximeter, reanimation table and infant incubators. The vital equipment has been supplied to the republic's maternity hospitals by the Pridnestrovian Humanitarian Fund and has saved 15 children this year alone. A three-fold decrease in infant mortality rate has also been detected in Rybnitsa District Hospital.
