Soviet Great Patriotic War banners on display at OGRF headquarters

The banners have been placed in a specially constructed chamber where due to the absence of air circulation they will be protected from wearing-out

As reported by the press service of the Western Military District of Russia's defence ministry, these banners belonged to 179th Guards Nizhnednestrovskiy and 183rd Guards Segedsk rifle regiments, awarded the honorary "Guards" title for the heroism shown when liberating territories occupied by German troops.

Today these regiments have become the base for two motorized rifle battalions of the Operational Group of Russian Forces (OGRF), which are part of the Joint Peacekeeping Force (JPF) and on a rota basis fulfil peacekeeping tasks in the Security Zone.

The OGRF units have been serving at peacekeeping posts and checkpoints for over 20 years, and not a single case of conflict escalation has been registered in the region over this period.
