Pridnestrovie tightens control over cars registered in Lithuania

Upon revealing non-registered motor vehicles imported to Pridnestrovie and declared in the temporary importation regime until the end of the year, such vehicles will not pass customs clearance

Pridnestrovie's customs will strengthen control over the placement of vehicles under the "temporary importation" customs regime in a simplified procedure. This applies to the vehicles registered in the Republic of Lithuania and imported to Pridnestrovie by individuals, as well as those in whose respect the regime will soon expire.

As explained by the State Customs Committee (SCC), these measures are motivated by amendments to the current Lithuanian legislation.

"Since 1 July Lithuania's registration authorities have suspended the motor vehicles that have not undergone maintenance control or are not covered by the compulsory third party car insurance from participating in the road traffic. In case the causes of suspension are not eliminated within 90 days, a motor vehicle is the subject to deregistration," says the announcement of Pridnestrovie's SCC.

Thus, upon revealing non-registered motor vehicles imported to Pridnestrovie and declared in the temporary importation regime until 31 December 2014, such vehicles will not get customs registration.

If the absence of registration is revealed upon the termination of the temporary importation regime  within the period till 31 December 2014, an individual will be notified about deregistration of a motor vehicle.
