Croatia to learn about Pridnestrovie

Miro Ascic, a journalist of Croatia's national TV, who is making a TV film about Pridnestrovie, has visited the Pridnestrovian State University

Here he had a meeting with the acting rector, Vyacheslav Stepanov, the university's official website reports. In particular, the rector spoke about the university, its history and Pridnestrovie's system of higher education.

"The Pridnestrovian State University (PSU) is a classic university and is the biggest educational ground in Pridnestrovie. In fact, it is a state forming centre of the republic," said Vyacheslav Stepanov.

At present over 13, 000 students study at the Pridnestrovian State University. These are not only local students, but also young people from neighbouring countries.

According to the rector, the PSU flexibly adjusts the specialization of students to meet labour market demands. The university managed to preserve the system of public distribution of graduates, so the majority of them have jobs on graduating.

"However, the university keeps pace with the times, implementing the Bologna system, which has been adopted both in Europe and Russia, and at the same time keep up the best traditions of the Soviet higher education," said the acting rector.

Vyacheslav Stepanov answered the Croatian journalist's questions about the contemporary political and economic aspects that influence both the university's life and Pridnestrovie as a whole.
