MFA comments on Pridnestrovie's initiative for "Permanent Conference" participants' visit to Tiraspol

29 August 2014 Pridnestrovie was visited by Radojko Bogojević, the special representative of the OSCE chairperson-in-office, and Andriy Veselovsky, the ambassador-at-large of Ukraine's MFA

In the course of the consultations a main issue was the prospects for holding the upcoming session of the Permanent Conference in Vienna, scheduled for 10-11 September.

The MFA's press service reports the Pridnestrovian side has claimed the impossibility of a full-fledged dialogue with regard to repressive measures and blackmail methods used by Moldova against Pridnestrovie, including criminal prosecution of the Pridnestrovian officials with 15 criminal cases opened this year. During the meetings the Pridnestrovian side expressed its concern over Moldova's having allocated the frequencies used by  Pridnestrovie's communications provider to the Moldovan mobile operators.

With respect to unprecedented pressure on one side in the negotiation process, which contradicts a number of prior agreements, and taking into account that no draft documents, providing the basis for substantive discussions within the framework of the 5+2 Talks, had been prepared, Pridnestrovie has informed the special representative of the OSCE chairperson-in-office that it is not ready to take part in the session of the Permanent Conference on the proposed dates.

However, the Pridnestrovian side has taken the initiative of holding extra consultations of the 5+2 Talks participants in Pridnestrovie and Moldova in order to find stable compromise solutions to the existing and recent challenges, first of all, related to politically charged criminal cases.

Pridnestrovie has proposed to make use of the high potential of diplomacy, including shuttle diplomacy, by organising meetings with lawyers and the Pridnestrovian officials who are the subject to criminal prosecution in Moldova in order to find efficient ways of settling issues in this and other spheres.

The MFA's press service underscores that in no way does the present initiative, regarded in Pridnestrovie as the best way of settling the existing contradictions, mean Pridnestrovie's refusal to take part in the Permanent Conference and expresses hope that this proposal will be endorsed by Pridnestrovie's 5+2 Talks partners.
