Alleged "saboteurs from Pridnestrovie" searched for in Ukraine

The NovostiPridnestrovya (NP) news agency has decided to find out if the search is successful

The NP news agency has already quoted the KGB's press service as saying that Ukraine's authorities and mass media made repeated allegations that Pridnestrovie was preparing a military attack on Ukraine.

The KGB's press service points out that "the method of spreading groundless rumors among the population of Odessa and Vinitsa regions is being used to contribute to these insinuations." There were registered facts of using vehicles equipped with loudspeakers in order to inform the residents in Ukraine's territory bordering Pridnestrovie about a supposed armed attack on Ukraine during the period from 30 July to 2 August.

Home-made announcements have recently been circulated in the Odessa region's localities (see the photo). The announcements say that the criminal actions - "explosions of banks' departments and people, the possibility of exploding the Odessa water main in Belyaevka and RESEDENTIAL HOUSES" - committed by unknown persons have actually been performed or are planned to be performed by "Pridnestrovian saboteurs."

On behalf of certain house committees the Ukrainian population is called on "to quietly take pictures" of "unknown persons" "speaking without the Odessa accent" and report them to the SBU over the phones stated in the announcements.

The NP news agency has decided to undertake its own investigation and phone the stated numbers to ask if the information on Pridnestrovian saboteurs has been confirmed. The first number was void. When we dialed the second, a man picked the receiver. Our journalist introduced herself and asked him to comment on the posted announcements, but the SBU officer refused to say anything and forwarded her to the SBU's press service, giving another phone number. There, our call was first rejected, then the fax was turned on.Evidently, they hadn't expected calls from Pridnestrovie and were not ready to explain the logic of their statements.

It should be noted that up to now Ukraine has not presented any evidence  which would directly or indirectly testify that Pridnestrovie is preparing an armed attack on Ukraine, as well as any subversive and terroristic operations in the Ukrainian territory.

"The disinformation on Pridnestrovie, disseminated by Ukraine's authorities, public organisations and mass media, is groundless and aimed at spreading panic in the Ukrainian territory adjacent to Pridnestrovie, which may result in forming unfounded negative attitude towards Pridnestrovie. We underscore that the situation at Pridnestrovie's state border is being thoroughly monitored, and there is no direct threat of armed conflict at the moment," states the KGB's press service.
