YevgeniyShevchuk meets with presidential scholars

This academic year 25 students from the T. Shevchenko Pridnestrovian State University have been granted scholarships of the President of Pridnestrovie

The President thanked the students and their parents for studying hard and also expressed gratitude to the University's faculty.

The excellent mark is, first of all, a painstaking work, a serious possibility of working in the chosen profession or further going into science. It is very important to have our own educational flagships to compete with," YevgeniyShevchuk underscored, proposing to continue the conversation in a "question-answer" form.

The young people shared their plans for future with the President and also asked a number of questions of their concern. One of them concerned a health care industry. YevgeniyShevchuk recalled that under the auspices of the Russian Federation a new building of the university's medical department is being built.

"The University's medical department will be among the strongest institutions in terms of equipment and educational personnel. Russia also assists in building a new radiation oncology building in Tiraspol, which is scheduled to go into operation by the end of the year. In Rybnitsa, a new medical diagnostic center is to be launched by the City Day.

To improve the University's provision with up-to-date research literature and textbooks, the President asked the rector to compile a relevant application. Besides, as was reported during today's meeting, the work of the German language department will be enhanced.

Another topical issue touched upon at the meeting  was military service of university graduates. YevgeniyShevchuk recalled that under new amendments to the dedicated law the term of military service has been reduced from 1.5 to a year. The President emphasized the importance and responsibility of this period in every man's life.

The head of state drew special attention to today's economic situation. He recalled that in 2012-2013 the republic managed to collect extra tax payments in the amount of $ 100 million, providing conditions for macroeconomic stability and stable national currency.

During this period Pridnestrovie was showing one of the best rate of economic growth in the CIS. We keep working in this direction. Today many Pridnestrovian manufacturers are losing product markets in Ukraine, reducing output; consequently, there are shortfalls in tax payments. However, even in this difficult economic situation education will remain a priority," the President of Pridnestrovie concluded.
