MPs meet Ukrainian Ambassador to Moldova

The participants discussed the information emerged in the media on the possibility of Ukraine's suspending the work of crossing points at the Ukraine-Pridnestrovie border.

The meeting was attended by Sergey Cheban, Vice-Speaker and Chairman of the Commission on Foreign Policy and International Relations, and Vladimir Bodnar, Chairman of the Committee on Education and deputy head of the MP's group on contacts with the Supreme Council of Ukraine.

As is reported by the parliamentary press service, the dialogue participants discussed the information emerged in the media on the possibility of Ukraine's suspending the work of crossing points at the Ukraine-Pridnestrovie border.

Ukraine's Ambassador to Moldova Sergey Pirozhkov assured the MPs that the issue had been discussed by the Ukrainian authorities, and Ukraine does not intend to take decisions to suspend the work of crossing points at the Ukraine-Pridnestrovie border or introduce some other measures restricting cross-border movements and cargo transportation. At the same time, the existing political situation justifies the introduction of measures intensifying control over the Ukraine-Pridnestrovie border, which is no obstacle to crossing it.

The MPs recalled that ethnic Ukrainians make a third of the Pridnestrovian population. For many years Ukraine has been a guarantor and mediator of the  settlement process in Pridnestrovie, as well as our economic partner. That's why the Pridnestrovians feel deep concern over the current Ukrainian events, and our Republic is very interested in stabilizing the political situation in Ukraine through Ukrainian president's plan on peaceful settlement and cessation of hostilities.

The sides shared the opinion that all the ongoing differences can and must be settled within the framework of the negotiation process.
