Pridnestrovie and Hungary developing cultural ties

President Vadim Krasnoselsky has met a delegation of the Hungarian embassy to Moldova today

Tiraspol, 15 February. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. President Vadim Krasnoselsky has met a delegation of the Hungarian embassy to Moldova today, the presidential press service reports.

In recent years, the most intensive cooperation between Pridnestrovie and Hungary has been carried out in the historical and cultural spheres. As we have already reported, the memory of the Hungarian soldiers for whom the Pridnestrovian soil became the last refuge was immortalised at Bendery's Military and Historical Memorial.

During the meeting, Hungarian ambassador to Moldova Matyash Szilagyi expressed special gratitude to President Krasnoselsky for assistance in creating this memorial.

«I want to convey the gratitude of the people whose relatives are buried at the military cemetery. The cult of memory is very developed in our country as well. We appreciate your assistance and the help of Pridnestrovians in creating the military cemetery. This creates a good atmosphere in our relations," said the diplomat.

«I have always said it is not good when people, including soldiers, become hostage to political decisions. Once there came an idea to create a memorial where over 5,000 soldiers from Russia and other countries are buried," said Vadim Krasnoselsky.

He expressed hope for the development of cultural ties between Pridnestrovie and Hungary. «Political models and mechanisms are changeable, whereas culture and national values remain unchanged," added the president.

Matyash Szilagyi highlighted Hungary's special interest in the economy and politics of Pridnestrovie. According to the Hungarian diplomat, it is necessary to seek political stability in Pridnestrovie and progress in the Moldo-Pridnestrovian settlement.

«All this is ultimately done to enhance the livelihoods of people and ensure peace and order in Pridnestrovie. We hope that the impetus which was given to the settlement process last year will have a positive result," said the ambassador.

According to Vadim Krasnoselsky, Pridnestrovie is an open and peace-loving country which wants to live in peace with its neighbours — Moldova and Ukraine.

«Pridnestrovie is an open democratic state with an efficient mechanism of check and balances between branches of power. All our political decisions made at the level of the negotiating process must not put Pridnestrovian citizens to a nonplus," said the president.
