Peace Run international relay arrives in Pridnestrovie

The athletes will run from Dubossary to Tiraspol and from the Pridnestrovian capital to the village of Glinoye, Slobodzeya District

Tiraspol, 13 September. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The international relay Peace Run is arriving in Pridnestrovie today. At 12:15, 26 athletes will cross the border of Pridnestrovie near the village of Dorotskoe and proceed first to Dubossary and further via Grigoriopol to the country's capital. The athletes represent several countries, including Ukraine, Moldova, Austria, Croatia and Romania. Trainees of the Pridnestrovian sports schools will join the peace runners on their way. In Tiraspol the relay participants will hold a short news conference at 18:00, after which they will go to rest.

The athletes will leave Tiraspol next morning. First, they will cover over 30 km to the settlement of Pervomaysk, then head for Glinoye village and after that they will return to the territory of Moldova.

Peace Run is an international torch relay which promotes friendship, peace and understanding and inspires people to unite for the sake of harmony and oneness. Relay participants pass the torch in the Olympic way from one to another as a symbol of good will. Along with the promotion of healthy lifestyles and physical culture, Peace Run also promotes cultural and friendly relations among people of different countries and regions. Since the establishment of the relay in 1987 more than six million people have taken part in it; the torch has visited more than 140 countries on 6 continents: Europe, Asia, South and North America, Africa and Australia.

This year's relay started in Portugal in February and finishes in Italy this October. Runners from different countries will carry the Torch of Peace across the USA, Europe, Canada, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Argentina, countries of Africa and South-East Asia.
